Henna Party & Hindu Wedding

I love embracing different cultures and traditions, and obviously dressing up. I might have gone a little over the edge with these photos, but I think the exotic look suits me.

I went to my very first Hindu wedding celebration this weekend and it was amazing. This was the same couple that got married last weekend, however with two strong cultures (Portuguese and Indian) they needed two separate occasions to fit in all the traditions, family and food.

Leading up to the wedding, all of us ladies got henna tattoos. Here are a few examples during the process. These are traditionally done on the palms of the hands (which absorb the ink better because of body temperature), however I alternated sides of my hands and also got a design on my back since my outfit would reveal it. I figured I'd go all out.

You can see the bride's hands are covered up like gloves.

I am a little sad all the festivities are now over. I still can't wait to see the professional photos from the original bridal party.

Wishing you all love and laughter this beautiful Monday morning.

Photographic Memory

I see light ahead which promises good things. So long as I keep moving, I know I'm on the right path. I have faith I will find my way.

Walking through the forest yesterday I got so caught up in the gentle rustling of the leaves, the way they'd catch the light, the way they'd sparkle and the way they wispered to me.

Just like you can get those DVDs of a crackling fireplace, I'd want an entire wall to be projected with a forest view with leaves flickering in the soft breeze. Better yet, just put my house in the forest. Oh wait, I'm still dreaming. I'd better wake up because I'm about to start the weekend! The couple that got married this past weekend will be having a Hindu wedding ceremony this weekend. We are all going to 'bling it up' with costumes, jewelry and henna tattoos. I'll share pictures from the Henna Party on Monday.

Make it a memorable weekend and I hope you can see the light on whatever path you're on.

Current Crush: Simple Geometrics

Alright, so I clearly haven't mastered the art of Polyvore yet. My Simple Geometrics post was just supposed to be part of my Current Crush for today, not a separate post. So, for those of you that haven't seen it yet, check it out and here are a few more inspiring pieces, linking up with Rachel from LaLa Lists and Ashley from Embracing the Everyday through Framed Frosting in Danielle's absence. I hope that all makes sense.

One of my biggest sources of inspiration right now is actually from the blogging community. With so many unique individuals with fabulous style sense and different perspectives, it's easy to be inspired and enlightened.

Natalie from Natalie Merrillyn posted about these fabulous dishes on sale at Hautelook.

Anna James from Fash Boulevard posted about these adorable earrings that she got from Frock Candy ($12 people).

Here are a few other designs showcasing sharp geometric lines.

I cannot wait to try this Buffalo Chicken Dip! Follow the link to see the full recipe, however it's as easy as pulled Chicken Breasts, Frank's Red Hot, Ranch Dressing, your favourite Nacho-style Cheese and veggies or tortilla's for dipping. Red pepper wedges would probably be fabulous. Come on football season. Can't wait for more opportunities to show off some of these recipes.

Enjoy!

Back to Reality

So, my extra long weekend has come to an end. I'm back to work, back to reality but filled with great memories, love and happiness.

This is me in my beautiful fuschia bridesmaid dress. Get this, it even has pockets!
This is my date giving a speech. He flew in just for the wedding! So excited.

I mentioned here that I thought about trying a braided hairstyle for the wedding. I initially thought of having my hair down with just a braided headband, however the bride wanted us all to have updos. A long smooth side ponytail was as close as I could come to an updo. I was then going to do a braid at the front that went into the pony, I was going to do a little bump at the top but any time I tried them it just didn't look like me. I didn't want to be something I wasn't for the sake of getting done up. I compromised with doing my own hair and having a professional do my make-up, since they know what works best for photography, etc. I was celebrating with tons of good friends and my boyfriend's family as well and I wanted to be as much of myself as I could. It's different when you're going out and you don't know anyone, do something wild, try something new but this was a day where I felt beautiful, comfortable and had fun being me with people I love.

Here are the newly weds giving their thank you toast.

The groom has some Indian heritage and so they will be having a traditional Indian wedding this coming weekend. Those pictures should be a lot more colourful. Being part of the bridal party it was hard for me to get any decent pictures of everything going on, so these are just from my Blackberry. Yes, I still have a Blackberry, ha! One of these days (once my contract expires) I will be converted to the almighty iPhone.

I hope everyone had a great weekend and is enjoying the summer. I'll be back with more excitement once I fully recover from the weekend.

Current Crush: Bandeau Bra/Cami + DIY

Linking up with Danielle from Framed Frosting for my Current Crush, I'm sharing with you some of my favourite styles of Bandeau Bras plus a DIY sewing video. I find these bras perfect for summer weather when light layers are key. These are so comfortable for lounging around, can be layered into a daytime outfit or with a little flair can be super sexy for a night out. Plus, this is a great way to get a burst of colour, possibly NEON into your outfit. Have fun with it!

Oh, How Pinteresting!

Another segment of Oh, How Pinteresting!, linking up with Michelle from The Vintage Apple.

So, I found myself very hungry while on Pinterest this week. With inspiration like Quinoa Sushi, which just sounds geniuns and Gluten-Free Potato Flatbread to house smoked salmon or other spreadables...who can resist. Now, if I could only spend more time in the kitchen and less on Pinterest, ha!

Heather from The Lovely Cupboard posted a recipe for Orzo with Lemon Cream Sauce. She always has amazing recipes. Check out her blog for more recipes. You won't be sorry...probably just hungry.

Also, if you didn't see I posted a super easy rice recipe, which is as basic as rice and herbed cream cheese. Check it out here.
