My Current Crush, linking up with Framed Frosting is Braided Hair Details.
Now that my hair is super duper long (I'm aiming for down to my butt...we'll see how that goes, ha!), I've been trying new ways to put my hair back or up, since untamed, it can turn into a lion's mane. I've done the braid down the back, over to the side, the loose/messy braid, the multiple braid braid and my latest crush is the braided headband or braid as bangs style which I'm dying to test out.
I mentioned before that I loved Emily's tutorial for the Braided Headband on her blog Life, etc.. She shares fabulous tutorials, as well as what every girls needs, tips for healthier hair! I wrote about Part 1 and Part 2.
Celebrities like Jennifer Anniston and Lauren Conrad pull it off so effortlessly. It's a soft and elegant detail that would go great with jeans and a tee or I'm looking to wear it to a more formal occasion.
I am going to be a bridesmaid for a friend in 2 weeks! Once I have the dress fitted (any day now) I will start experimenting with hair and make-up. I'm still debating doing my own or having her stylist do both my hair and make-up. I need to do a run-through or two and based on the success rate, photos might be posted.
I'm assuming that most of the other bridesmaids will have their hair professionally curled (those big wavy curls) and I want to do something that is more to my natural style. I want the majority of my hair down and straight (even though it's summer) but I need it to be out of my face.
Is it that much better to guarantee it will last all day and night (with minor touch-ups)? I've never had my hair or make-up done by anyone else for an event. I suppose I could tell them what I usually do so they don't transform me into someone else entirely...unless they can make me even more fabulous, ha!

What are your thoughts on professional hair and make-up?

I think your hair would look great like that! I love Emily's blog and her hair is just gorgeous!
I love all of these styles and I love that you can wear them casual or elegant! I am going to be a bridesmaid soon too and I'm thinking of doing something similar. Lauren Conrad's style is my favorite!
In general I think getting your hair professionally done is a pretty safe bet, but I am not convinced that you need a professional make-up application...make-up artists widely vary in skill so unless your bride is raving about her trial run I wouldn't bother. Can't wait to see pictures!
I love this hair style! I also love getting my hair professionally done, however I have not ever had much luck getting a professional make-up application. I am sure it will look great whatever you choose!

I love braids! I wish I had the skill to do them on my hair. I do them on my daughters hair all the time, the creative licence braiding allows is awesome. I love this style of braid too and need to try it out my my kiddo. I didn't know what to do with her hair today, now I do thanks!
Thanks Laura. I know, Emily's already got another tutorial posted.
I'll post what I end up doing...who knows what the stylist will suggest. I'd love to see you as a bridesmaid too! :)
Jane, thanks for the insight. I might get pressured into doing both by the bride. I'm worrying now that if everyone else is getting done up, I might look like a dud beside them, ha. Pictures will show the end result.
I've done one photoshoot with professinal make-up which was great, but going to the mall and getting something done...I can always do better. Thanks for the support.
Best of luck with the braiding. Just checked out your blog and you've got the cutest kids. Beautiful and fun photography!
I can't wait to grow my hair longer so I can do the headband braid!!
This would be perfect for a wedding! Makes me wish I could do hair!
I love the the braids! What a great crush!

Thanks Chris!
I'm getting so nervous and I'm not even the one getting married, hahaha. Check out Emily's tutorials which make these styles super simple.
I love these braided styles! My hair is way too short for them, but I did some braids in my sister's long hair and they look great. I think it can be fun to get hair and makeup done professionally--I've had pro makeup and hair for photoshoots before and it's fun--but most of the time I prefer looking like me!
I did my own makeup for my wedding so that I'd have my own style, but I did have my hair done. To me, it's a lot easier to do your own makeup well than to do your own hair well, since it's easier to see what you're doing!
loved stumbling across this post and the other posts you've done promoting my blog! You are so sweet, thank you a million!
It makes me feel so good to hear that you like my tutorials, and actually try them!
Thank you so much michaela! you're the best!
P.S. let me know what you think of the new blog design? and check out my new Hairstyles + Beauty page:) I'd love to hear your opinion!
